Today, we will be focussing on two further blessings found in Luke 1:30-38
The Eighth Blessing: ‘You Shall Call His Name Jesus’
The Name ‘Jesus’ was not randomly selected. Jesus is a transliteration of the Hebrew word, Yoshua, meaning, ‘God is salvation’. The name ‘Jesus’ was divinely selected before Christ was born, and it represents both His Identity (who He Is), and His Mission (what He was sent to do). Philippians 2:10 gives us some insight into the power of His Name, that at the name of Jesus, ‘every knee will bow…and every tongue will confess’ the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jesus is all that God is, in character, uniqueness, distinctiveness, personality, and nature. Consequently, He becomes our Messiah; Our Anointed King; Our Deliverer; Our Redeemer; Our Prince of Peace; Our Great Shepherd; Our Rock; Our Chief Corner Stone; and Immanuel: God with us. In actuality, Jesus is ‘all that, and more’, which means, He is our ‘El Shaddai’, a God who is ‘More Than Enough’.
