The Second Blessing: ‘The Lord is with You’

When the Lord calls you out of your comfort zone, you want the assurance that God is with you. When the Children of Israel came out of Egypt, they ventured out into unknown territory, having no idea where exactly they were going, no clue regarding how long the journey would take, no information at all concerning this waterless terrain, no knowledge of how they would feed their families, or whether the inhabitants surrounding them where hostile or friendly. Not long after their departure out of Egypt, Moses, their leader, was called away by God to receive some answers to these questions. Whilst Moses was away, the people became a little restless, and they decided to build for themselves a ‘god’ to replace Moses, in the shape of a golden calf. Of course, this really grieved the Lord, and He informed Moses that He would rather not go with these ‘stiff-necked’ people, alternatively, He would send an angel instead.
