Scarred but not Discarded Day 17

‘How shall this be seeing I know not a man?’ was the question Mary asked in Luke 1:34. This question is not an unusual one, it is a common response throughout Scriptures by many of God’s people. Let us take a look at some of them:

Sarah asked: How can this be when, ‘I have grown old… my husband old also?’ The Lord answered: ‘Is there anything too hard for the Lord? (Genesis 18:14)

Moses asked: How can this be when ‘I am slow of speech and tongue?’.
The Lord answered: ‘I will help you and teach you what to say. (Exodus 4:10-12)

Hannah asked: How can this be because ‘the Lord had closed her womb’.
The Lord answered: ‘Go in peace…your petition shall be granted’. (1 Samuel 1:11-17)

Gideon asked: How can this be when ‘My tribe is the weakest…and I am the least?’
The Angel answered: ‘The Lord is with you…mighty man of valour’. (Judges 6:11-16)

Jeremiah asked: How can this be when ‘I am slow of speech; [and] I am too young’?
The Lord responded: ‘Do not be afraid…I am with you and will rescue you’. (Jeremiah 1:5-8)

Martha asked: How can my brother Lazarus rise again, when, ‘My brother Lazarus… is dead’.
Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection, and life, though he is dead, yet he shall live’. (John 11:25)

Perhaps you can see yourselves in some of these Bible characters, questioning: How can this be, when I have been to every physician, and I am still bleeding. (Lk 8:43) How can this be when I am ‘bowed over with a spirit of infirmity’. (Luke 13:11) How can this be when I have been lying here for twenty-eight years, with ‘no one’ to put me in the pool when the angel ‘troubles the water’. (John 5:1)

Perhaps you are asking this very same question, ‘How shall this be seeing I know not a man?’ Well, the answer is found in Jeremiah 17:30, ‘For I Will Restore Health To You… I Will Heal Your Wounds’. It is God who can… and God who will. Amen and Amen.

– In Joel 2:18-28, You promised that we will never be a reproach. Therefore, we will not be afraid, and we will do great exploits.
– Poverty will not be our portion. Our floors shall be full of wheat, and our vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
– Today, we rebuke the cankerworm, the caterpillar, the palmerworm, and the locust.
– We shall testify that the Lord has done wondrous things for us. We will never be put to shame. Amen.
– Father, teach us how to wait on You. You have promised that You will not ‘withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly’. Amen and Amen.
