Out of My Belly Shall Flow – Day 12 –

 

Elijah asks the poor widow, ‘What do you have in your house?’ Isn’t it amazing how offended we can become when we are questioned regarding our resources. There was a time when everyone knew everyone, and that included everyone’s business. There was a time when we were a community of people who wouldn’t be afraid to pop in for a chat, or perhaps to ‘borrow’ a bit of sugar, maybe to ask for a little change for your child’s lunch money. As a community, we were there for each other to ‘off-load’, seek advice regarding life, counsel concerning marriage, guidance in raising our children, instruction in money matters, spiritual encouragement in times of dismay, and guaranteed you could always find a mother or father willing to sacrifice time to cover you in prayer. According to sociologists, the extended family is quickly being replaced by the nuclear family, consisting of one or two adult parent and their immediate off-springs. Today we only depend on what we have in our own ‘jars’, we no longer seek…
