Text: 2 Kings 4:9-10
And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, which passes by us continually. Let us make him a little chamber on the wall; with a bed, a table, a stool, and a candlestick’
Word: ‘What Is God Stirring You To Do? Pt 1’
by Pastor Nadia Jackson
There are moments when God will place something in your spirit before He places anything in your hand. The Shunammite Woman had no prophecy, no announcement and no guarantee of a reward. All she had was a stirring. Something within her discerned that Elisha was no ordinary traveller: She perceive that he was an ‘holy man of God.’ Her perception became an instruction, and her instruction became an action; Hence her statement, ‘Let us make…’
Sometimes we are waiting for God to tell us what He is going to do for us, while God is stirring us concerning what He wants to do through us. We pray, ‘Lord, open the door’, but God may be saying: ‘First build the chamber’. We ask Him for our next opportunity, whilst He is drawing our attention to something that is already standing in front of us.
The Shunammite Woman teaches us that Divine Opportunities do not always arrive looking like opportunities. Elisha was simply passing through Shunem. There was no visible miracle attached to his arrival. There was no indication that building a room for him would eventually become connected to the deepest desire of this woman’s heart. She simply discerned that God was in the moment. Sometimes the ‘Set-Up’ comes before the ‘Step-Up’.
What is repeatedly passing before you that God is asking you to notice? What idea keeps returning? What burden will not leave you? What ministry, business, book, course, conversation, relationship, act of service or step of faith has God been stirring in your spirit?
Perhaps you have been waiting for something dramatic when God has already whispered, ‘Let us build.’ So, Daughter, pay attention to what God is stirring. Your next instruction may look small, but there may be something supernatural attached to your obedience.
Let Us Pray
– Father, awaken my spiritual sensitivity; help me to recognise what You are stirring me to do.
– Holy Spirit, sharpen my discernment so that I recognise my Divine Opportunities.
– Father, silence every distracting sound that competes with Your Voice in my life.
– I declare that fear, disappointment and past experiences will not cause me to miss my season.
– Lord, give me courage to obey You even when I cannot see the complete outcome.
