‘Breaking Open Your Alabaster Box’
Like Jairus, we sometimes wait until ‘the point of death’, before we come screaming to Jesus. Naomi waited until her husband and both sons had died before she decided to ‘shift’ from her necrotic situation. Jairus’ waited until his daughter was ‘at the point of death’ before he decided to try Jesus. Mary Magdeline didn’t just have one demon; she had seven: she was prepared to endure a life with the complete ‘demonic package’. To be perfectly honest, there are times when we seem no different to Naomi or Mary Magdeline. Whether it be in the area of an unhealthy routine, an unwholesome environment, shady relationships, unacceptable lifestyles, or a flawed character trait. There are times when we convince ourselves into thinking that ‘it-is-what-it-is’, some believe that they are unchangeable, unredeemable, too lost to be found, too sick to be healed, too much of a failure for any form of recovery or transformation.
However, God made a vow concerning you and He is a God who will always keep His Covenant Promise. You belong to God; You are His Bride, He is your ‘Kingsman Redeemer’. You may have had to endure much ridicule, scorn, mockery, contempt, lack, disapproval, and accusation. You may have felt as if ‘the enemy of this world’ has had the upper hand, but remember, God has not once lost a battle, and He never will. You are ‘favoured’ by the Lord, and He will never allow any weapon fashioned against you to ever prosper.
Mary may have been possessed by seven devils, but she was delivered, and her story does not end there. Many people believe that it was this same Mary who ‘having a box of very costly fragranced oil, she stood at Jesus’ feet weeping; Then she began to wash His feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair’. Well, the Pharisee who had invited Jesus to dinner wasn’t too pleased about this, he was wondering how Jesus could be a prophet, and allow this sinful woman to touch Him. Jesus answered His host with this parable: Two people borrowed money from a ‘loan-shark’. One person owed two months’ worth of wages, while the other person owed two years’ worth. The money lender writes off both debts. Jesus then asks the question, ‘Which of them will love him more/’? Jesus then proceeded to rebuke Simon the Pharisee for not showing Him any respect or reverence though He (Jesus) was his invited guest. However, this woman… this woman has not stopped worshipping at His feet because ‘she has been forgiven much, thus, she loved much’. What is your posture today, are you looking to Jesus’ hands, or lying prostrate at His feet? Let us choose to worship Him.
