Word: Turning A Broken Story Into God’s Glory
In 2 Timothy 2:20, we read that ‘In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour’: Please take note, all these vessels were located ‘in the Master’s house’. Some vessels were reserved for special purposes, and some were used for menial, lowly or common assignments. In this text, Paul was encouraging Timothy to position himself where he could be used as a vessel of honour… ‘fit for the Master’s use’.
Saints of God, every vessel has the capacity of honour (or dishonour). It is God’s will that we make right choices. We may start in a place of ‘dishonour’ but decide to make a shift towards more honourable (worthy) things. There are some who may start in a place of ‘honour’ but shift into a dishonourable (disreputable) position. Nevertheless, you are still a ‘vessel’, and as long as you remain in the ‘Master’s House’, there is the potential for ‘honour’.
At the wedding of Cana, the chosen vessels carrying wine for the invited guests, ran out. There in the corner sat six empty waterpots of stone. Jesus commanded that they be filled with water and taken to the master of ceremony. It was the best wine the governor had ever tasted. God is not through with you yet. You may feel like those ‘stone water pots’, sitting empty and forgotten. But the Lord is on His way, and He knows where you are located. Jesus knows how to redeem, restore, renew, and revive empty vessels. (John 2:1-10).
When Naomi moved from Bethlehem-Judah, to Moab, she shifted from a place of being full (honour), into a place of emptiness (dishonour). In Ruth 1:20-21 she says, ‘Call me not Naomi (pleasant): Call me Mara (Bitter)… I went out full, and the Lord has brought me home again empty’. Naomi thought it was over, all her dreams laid shattered at her feet. Naomi thought that her life was beyond restoration. Nonetheless, it is God who will always have the final say. God knows how to rescue your shattered vessels, restore your broken pieces, reinstate your oil, and release the wine. Jesus is the ‘Master Potter’, He wants to revise your story for His Glory. You may have been shamefully shattered, but God knows how to gracefully restore. Hallelujah.
