Text: 2 Kings 4:11–14
‘And it fell on a day, that Elisha turned into the chamber. And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite… Behold, thou hast been careful about us; what is to be done for you?… And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child’

‘Building The Chamber Pt 3. What Is There To Be Done For You?’
She had built the chamber asking for nothing in return. She simply discerned, prepared and made room. Yet from within the place she had built came a summons: ‘Call the Shunammite’. From within the chamber she had built, she heard the question, ‘What is there to be done for you? The Shunammite’s initial response was, ‘I dwell among mine own people.’ She did not present Elisha with a list of requests. But Gehazi noticed something: ‘Verily she hath no son’.
There are desires we have prayed about for so long that eventually we stop talking about them. There are places where disappointment has taught us how to live without expectation. We learn to function. We learn to serve. We learn to smile. We even learn to say, ‘I am fine.’
However, God knows what is missing even when you have stopped mentioning it. He knows the prayer you no longer pray aloud. He knows the disappointment you have learned to carry quietly. He knows the part of your life where you have adjusted to absence and convinced yourself that you no longer need an answer. The Shunammite Woman had made room for God while living with an empty room of her own: And God saw it. She built a chamber without knowing that the events flowing from that chamber would lead to a prophetic word addressing a silent place in her life. That is why you must never underestimate what God is asking you to build.
Keep building. Build when nobody understands it. Build when you cannot see the outcome. Build when what you have seems small. Build when there is no applause. Build when you have unanswered questions of your own. Do not build to receive something from God. Build because you love Him. Build because you discern Him. Build because His Presence deserves room in your life. And while you are building, do not conclude that God has forgotten the places in your own life that remain unanswered. God sees every builder. He sees the chamber. And He also sees the empty room. And at the appointed time, the question that was asked of the Shunammite Woman may become the question God places before you:
‘What Is There To Be Done For You?’
Let us Pray
– Father, visit the desires I have stopped speaking about. You know the silent places of my heart.
– Where disappointment has silenced expectation, cause hope to arise again.
– Father, heal every place where delay has caused me to settle for less than what You have spoken.
– Father, breathe again upon every God-given promise that I have stopped believing could happen.
– I will keep building even while I am waiting. I will keep serving even while I am believing. I will keep making room for Your Presence even while there are empty rooms in my own life.
– And in Your appointed season, let the question be heard over my life: ‘What Is There To Be Done For You?’ In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
