‘Season of Refund; Reimbursement; & Compensation’
Some of us may be experiencing elements of grief even now. We may have seen our own purposes die. Nevertheless, the Words of Jesus to this dear woman of Nain, who was about to bury her son, creates an atmosphere of expectation, anticipation, hope, and restoration. When it seems like it is all over, Jesus turns up with just one touch, just one Word, and ‘life’ begins again. Simply put: For God to begin… all we come to depend on must end. The fire of God is painful, it not only deals with all that we are, but it also has the capacity to destroy all we hold very dear. Nevertheless, we can never out-give God…He takes away, to leave room for His abundant and rich supply. People of God, with Christ at the wheel, you will become whole, full, content, and complete.
Who is God actually referring to in this passage of Scripture? He is talking to the ‘barren’; all those who are feeling unproductive; those who are labelled as ‘dead/lifeless’; those whose world is just falling apart, and it feels as if you are having to say ‘goodbye’ to so many people dear to your heart. You have stopped counting the many times you’ve passed through the ‘valley of Bacca’, just like this poor widow burying her only son. These stories can only be described as a desolate situation. Have you been there, people of God? Maybe, this is where you are right now.
Let me tell you what these stories in Scripture do for me, people of God: They give me hope. You may be feeling wretched, despicable, worthless, pointless, at the bottom of the pile, unmarried, unproductive, unappreciated, invisible, ignored, misunderstood, and without value. Maybe everything surrounding you has turned to dust, and all those beautiful dreams you once had has trickled through your fingers like sand. God is speaking to you right now. Not married? God is speaking to you. Your body is not functioning as it should? God is speaking to you. Feeling alone? God is speaking to you. Children causing trouble, God is coming after you. Saved, but feeling like a sinner? God is speaking to you. Set free, but still feeling like a slave to your family’s poor spiritual inheritance? God is speaking to you.
God is saying, ‘It’s not over’. Yes, you have been through the fire, but it did not destroy you; rather, your God allowed it to work in your favour. Yes, you heard God right: He is going to ensure that you receive ‘payback, backpay, and repay’ for all the damages the enemy caused. I’m talking about, refund, repayment, reimbursement, remuneration and compensation. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
