The Third Blessing: ‘Blessed Art Thou Among Women’
The third blessing, found in Luke 1:28, has many scholars debating whether Mary’s blessing could still be accessed by God’s Church today. Some scholars believe that this blessing was not the right for all women, it was a miracle reserved solely for Mary. Well, it’s true that only Mary was chosen to give birth to the Messiah, nevertheless, we must understand that today, the Church has been appointed, and prepared by God, to be a vessel or ‘carrier’ of His Son, Jesus Christ. Thus, the Church is a type of ‘Mary’. If the Church is a type of ‘Mary’, then individually, we are all prototypes of ‘Mary’. Which means, Christ dwells within us, and daily we are required to ‘give birth’: which means, our lives must visibly display Christ who dwells in us.
